Look, we're not going to reinvent the wheel here. The Old Fashioned has been around since before your great-grandfather was complaining about "kids these days," and there's a reason it stuck. Some bartenders get fancy with muddled fruit, weird syrups, fat washing, and flavored air. We keep it simple.
What You Need:
2 oz. of our 'Just Whiskey' Bourbon (because why would you use anything else?)
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup (or 1 tsp sugar if you want to go super traditional)
1 tsp water
2–3 dashes Angostura Bitters (don't be stingy)
Orange peel and cocktail cherry for garnish (yes, the garnish matters)
What You Do:
Toss the simple syrup and bitters into a mixing glass, add water, and stir until everything plays nice together. If you went with sugar instead, keep stirring until it actually dissolves - nobody wants gritty cocktails.
Fill that glass with ice, add our bourbon, and stir until it's properly chilled. The Happy Birthday song isn’t just for washing your hands.
Strain over a large ice cube or ice ball in a rocks glass. One cube. Crushed ice will water down your drink in five minutes.
Express that orange peel oil over the glass (yes, you have to twist it), then drop it in along with the cherry. This isn't optional decoration - it's flavor.
There you have it. An Old Fashioned that doesn't apologize for being exactly what it should be: simple, strong, and made with bourbon that knows what it's doing.
